چکیده

The aim was to evaluate the ventilation inhomogeneity (VIH) by multiple-breath nitrogen washout test (MBNW) after COVID-19 and identify relationship of lung clearance index (LCI) with other functional parameters respiratory system. Methods. cross-sectional study included 35 patients (97% men); median age 44 years. Spirometry, body plethysmography, diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide (DL co ), MBNW test, impulse oscillometry were performed. Dyspnea evaluated mMRC scale. performed using Easy-one Pro, MBW Module (ndd Medizintechnik AG, Switzerland). Results . divided into 2 groups. Group 1 21 (60%) who not diagnosed VIH. 14 (40%) testing period 72 (47 - 109) days from onset COVID-19. maximum volume damage determined high-resolution computed tomography (CT max ) 50% in acute disease 12% during study. medians all analyzed remained normal cohort as well groups 2, except resonance frequency (f res group 2. Statistically significant differences found between absolute dependence resistance (R5 R20), reactance area (A X f Significant also pathological changes vital capacity, forced expiratory first second (FEV R20). abnormalities more common A correlation shown LCI ratio residual total AX, fres, relative resistance, CTmax, FEV1 trasfer-factor ). Conclusion Seventy-two CoVID-19, detected 40% patients, decreased DL 23%, airway obstruction 11.4%, restrictive ventilatory defect 8.6%. Correlations , spirometry parameters, oscillometry, CT

A Systematic Approach to Multiple Breath Nitrogen Washout Test Quality

BACKGROUND Accurate estimates of multiple breath washout (MBW) outcomes require correct operation of the device, appropriate distraction of the subject to ensure they breathe in a manner representative of their relaxed tidal breathing pattern, and appropriate interpretation of the acquired data. Based on available recommendations for an acceptable MBW test, we aimed to develop a protocol to sys...

The effect of gas exchange on multiple-breath nitrogen washout measures of ventilation inhomogeneity in the mouse.

Inert-gas washout measurements using oxygen, in the lungs of small animals, are complicated by the continuous process of oxygen consumption (V̇o2). The multiple-breath nitrogen washout (MBNW) technique uses the alveolar slope to determine measures of ventilation inhomogeneity in the acinar (Sacin) and conducting (Scond) airway regions, as well as overall inhomogeneity, as determined by the lung ...

Multiple Breath Nitrogen Washout: A Feasible Alternative to Mass Spectrometry

BACKGROUND The lung clearance index (LCI), measured by multiple breath washout (MBW), reflects global ventilation inhomogeneity and is a sensitive marker of early cystic fibrosis (CF) lung disease. Current evidence is based on a customized mass spectrometry system that uses sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) as a tracer gas, which is not widely available. Nitrogen (N2) washout may be better suited for c...

Correcting for tissue nitrogen excretion in multiple breath washout measurements

Nitrogen excreted from body tissues impacts the calculation of multiple breath nitrogen washout (MBWN2) outcomes. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of tissue N2 on MBWN2 outcomes in both healthy subjects and patients with CF and to assess whether it is possible to correct for tissue N2. The contribution of tissue N2 to MBWN2 outcomes was estimated by comparing MBWN2-derived func...
